You can listen and by here.
A 1957 Höfner archtop guitar in the hands of Dirk Serries is the perfect argument to sit and pay attention to every single moment he touches the body and strings of that guitar.
An acoustic guitar solo on an LP that doesn't disappoint us. We started with Axis and in less than three minutes we are on Grid - one of my favorite tracks on this record. It allows us to listen in different directions, think about what will be presented to us in the following tracks and shows us the versatility and originality of Dirk.
My roots, for those who still don't know me, come from rock’n’roll. Over the years I looked for other genres, where my ear was challenged. It was in improvisation that this challenge gave me the most pleasure. It was in improvisation that I discovered, again, the instruments, their bodies, their sounds, everything that can come from them in the right hands.
In these hands that explore this 1957 guitar, I discovered a record that makes me go back on the tracks to listen them more than one time. Look for small nuances and details. Listening to the guitar and the way Dirk interacts with it, the way they talk to us simultaneously, without running over each other is just perfect. In Overlap we realize that Dirk runs his hands over her body, sometimes more subtle, sometimes more aggressive and she, the guitar, shows her potential, gives her body to him so that we can hear them in full.
In Kinetic, I felt, even for a few seconds, in a latin dance in which we swing, in which we seduce and are seduced. I start to let myself be guided by Dirk. May your Höfner, naked and raw, allow me to go to July 31, 2020. Until the time this record was recorded at Sunny Side Inc. Studio.
If I could, I would sit face to face with Dirk. I would have a lot to ask him. Maybe I was trying to figure out what story crossed his mind while strumming the guitar. Warm and seductive sounds. Rhetoric was the track that made me question what would go on in his mind, what places, people, smells and sounds made him improvise in this way.
Sketch is the longest track on this record. Six minutes of dynamics, intense moments, subtle touches, full of drive and desire. I was in complete harmony with this one, I felt that I was walking towards the end of the record. I entered Bursting Exertion: I found myself again.
The record closes with Areal, but I couldn't resist going back to Sketch one last time before I stop listening. To return to that track, is to return to the record resume. It is in this track that we have the synopsis of everything we have heard and what is to come.
I advise you to listen carefully, to let yourself be guided between hands and guitar. Dirk enters 2021 perfectly with this LP!
